I bought these big euro pillows and throw pillows for almost nothing at a warehouse sale. I love having the extras for reading/nursing in bed, but obviously the blue was no good with all the browns and greens, and the white ones didn't have any cover at all.
I wanted neutral/earth tones, and I wanted the big 22" euros in the back to all be the same, but I knew I didn't have enough of anything in my stash to do them all. Instead of buying several yards of a nice home decor fabric at $20 -$30/yard, I found a designer shower curtain in the clearance isle at Ross for $5. Which leaves me plenty material over for something else!
For the 2 white throw pillows, however, I had no clue. So after tucking the kids in bed the other night, I pulled out my fabric stash to see what I could do.
The duvet cover is bamboo, as well as the screen I made a few years back. I thought maybe bamboo would work for the throw pillows too.
First I traced the circle pillow on a white t-shirt (I thought the knit would be an easy way to get a nice fit without working too hard.) and cut out a circle just a little bit larger than the pillow.
Next, I cut some strips out of a piece of sage green knit and arranged the on the pillow.
I wanted a little more depth, so I cut more strips out of the white scraps and added them too. When everything looked good to me, I simply sewed over each piece with a zigzag stitch (the knit won't fray)
All that remained was to sew the 2 circles together, turn it right side out, pop the pillow in, and sew it shut! Done!
The square throw was even easier. I found a scrap left from another project (that bamboo screen I mentioned) that was the perfect size. I just had to sew it in a square, pop that pillow in, and, Done!
